A leading diversified natural resources producer ERG Africa is seeking a Chief Operating Officer.
Key responsibilities
Ascertain project engineering resource requirements.
Maintain and develop engineering standards and procedures to be used on projects.
Manage individual engineering disciple leaders
Align the engineering activities and personnel to further the project objectives
Ensure that all project engineering work complies with local and national legal requirements, and that designs comply with recognized standards of safety
Ensure that all project engineering work is carried out by adequately competent and diligent engineers and technicians, considering the nature of the work, and in accordance with agreed standards.
Promotes the project through advocacy, presentations, and participation in country, regional, and international technical forums.
Develops a detailed implementation plan in line with the agreed scope and resources.
Oversees development of a monitoring and evaluation plan for the successive phases of the project to capture project performance and results.
Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
Oversee budget, ensure financial accountability. Provides strategic leadership and technical, operational, financial, and managerial leadership for successful implementation of project activities.
Ensures that the program is technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with stakeholders’ priorities.
Provides oversight of program implementation including all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of project plans, and project performance.
Ensures the project produces the specified results in the annual workplan(s) to the required standard of quality and within the timeline and budget parameters.
Oversees budget pipeline development and budget monitoring.
Conducts monthly reviews to ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations. Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work performance of the team
Plans, organises, leads, and develops work plans for the team
Promotes teamwork, provides support, manages and evaluates performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance contracts for the team
Oversees the selection and training of qualified program staff, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, providing effective supervision, and managing performance to ensure efficient operations.
Establish work plan and staffing for each phase of project, and arrange for assignment of project personnel.
Essential qualifications
Post graduate degree in engineering, and registration with local engineering body (ecsa)
Project management qualification in one of the various disciplines.
Minimum 15 years mining & minerals related experience
Experience in international projects
Can demonstrate superior engineering management and organizational skills
Must be computer literate and be able to learn and use the company in house systems
Must have good presentation and communication skills
Must exhibit professionalism and cordiality with customers, suppliers and staff
Must have the capacity to adequately handle work stress and be able to meet project deadlines
Knowledge & skills
Ability to travel internationally when required
English speaking capability
French and/or russian speaking would be an advantage
Advanced computer literacy
Exposure to diverse multi-cultural settings and experience on the african continent.
