The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists, and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. Now they are looking for a General Manager of Russia Events.
The role
This position is responsible for the oversight for all Russian events, training courses, workshops, symposiums, forums and conferences. The position is also responsible for general office operations as approved by the Society’s governing Board of Directors.
The Director Events sets the strategic direction and leads the implementation of the SPE events portfolio in Russia. This position works closely with key industry stakeholders, senior executives withing the oil and gas industry, international member committees and other SPE Event Directors, Senior Managers and Department Heads. The position is responsible for financial oversight for all designated event budgets.
Duties
Supports the CGEO in strategic development of event goals and objectives.
Manages Events staff of 4-8 FTEs.
Develop and support the society’s strategic alliances and partnerships in Russia.
Represents the society to members, key stakeholders, business partners and professional associations.
Liaises with oil and gas operating, service, supply and manufacturing companies on matters related to the society’s interests and activities.
Provides input to the SPE Board Committee on Technical Content.
Provide support to the SPE Russia Regional Advisory Council by overseeing the preparation of meeting agendas, presenting comprehensive reports on revenues and expenditures, sharing SPE’s international strategic plan and other initiatives, whilst also seeking their guidance on developing SPE’s initiatives in Russia, along with any other relevant items.
Maintain an ongoing dialogue with the society’s regional directors, society members and dignitaries. Attend and where appropriate, lead high-level meetings with regional industry executives.
Researches, evaluates, negotiates with, establishes, and maintains relationships with preferred contractors and vendors.
Prepares, develops and submits comprehensive event budgets, closely monitoring results /actuals against plans and budgets.
Involved in the assessment of financial, strategic and logistical outcomes following each event.
Prepares detailed management reports as required.
Develops and manages the long-range calendar of activities for the office, assessing the strengths of the programs and identifying areas for improvement.
Determines on-site staffing allocations.
Oversees the organization and delivery of all SPE events in Russia with the aim of producing outcomes that are financially successful and create high member and stakeholder satisfaction.
Maintains knowledge of and promotes the full range of SPE programs and activities.
Ensures that Events team contribute to the proactive marketing of the society to encourage section and membership growth.
Provides events team resources to support membership activities, section officer conferences, and SPE officers and directors as required.
Collaborates with peers and volunteer committees.
Travels to society events including leadership team meetings and any other relevant meetings as may be required.
Acts as legal representative and legal signatory for SPER – within delegated authority boundaries.
Works with other functional Managers / Directors / VPs to ensure that any decisions made by the Russian Event team that relate to other functions within the Russia office are fully understood and communicated.
Works with Finance to complete external, and, if appropriate, internal audits.
Accepts any other reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Responsibilities
This position is currently responsible for the oversight of all events staff in the Russia office. This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the society’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, and training of staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; coordinating staffing/project schedules; addressing complaints and resolving issues; coaching and mentoring staff; as well as providing recommendations for process and performance improvements. This position is responsible for employee performance evaluations and development plans.
Additional supervisory responsibilities include managing projects and guiding staff to manage projects efficiently, including project definitions, work plans, documentation, scheduling, control methods and status reporting, as well as promoting and maintaining a team environment. Oversees development of event budgets and financial reconciliations, where applicable.
