This position is located in the Russian Language Unit, News Section II, News and Content Branch, News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The News Section produces daily news and feature stories, programmes, special series and creates audio content using live and recorded audio from meetings and events, and multimedia pieces for the UN News digital platform, incorporating audio and video elements, as well as social media content. Through these products UN News provide daily and weekly content in eight (9) languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Hindi, and Russian). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Unit.
Please be advised that this position is available starting 1 September 2021 for an initial period of six (6) months, with the possibility of extension.
Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Associate Public Information Officer under the direct supervision of the Chief of UN News (Russian Language Unit), the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:
• Contributes to timely and accurate coverage of key United Nations developments at Headquarters and around the world, including through regular weekend duty shifts and evenings as needed.
• Drafts/compiles a specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, etc.), of information communications products for target audiences, to include digital content, press releases, media packets and reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, websites, etc.
• Researches and drafts news and feature stories under the direction of senior editorial staff and provides assistance with interviews, developing and generating news and multimedia feature materials, as well as producing audio and video content to multiple daily deadlines.
• Works with photo and digital assets to illustrate multimedia content. Assists with social media for the UN News sites.
• In consultation with others identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience.
• Monitors a wide range of UN developments and news sources, including official press releases, statements, news conferences, briefings and meetings of various bodies; conducting interviews, transcribing recordings and creating short multimedia pieces, for use as related content.
• Draws on a wide variety of monitoring tools and keeps a close watch on analytics for the news website.
• Helps to maintain and update content of the UN News website, including focus pages, interviews, photo stories and a wide variety of related digital content, as well as for related social media sites for the relevant UN News platform.
• Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence.

Experience:
• A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required.
• Experience in writing news to daily deadlines and multimedia journalism in Russian language of the news team, including knowledge of digital content creation and publishing is required.
• Experience with on-air presentations and audio editing is required.
• Experience managing social media platforms and analytics is desirable.
• Experience with search engine optimization is desirable.
• Experience with video editing is desirable.
