In American Heart Association The Vice President of Finance  will be responsible for managing the regional finance, accounting, and financial reporting functions for the Southeast (SE) region. Working in close collaboration and partnership with the association’s centralized finance team, this position will manage, monitor and report on the region’s budgeting, financial forecasting, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants administration to ensure complete fiscal stewardship and full compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.

 

In conjunction with the SVP of Business Operations and Development Services, provides support, expertise and guidance to SE region senior management and the regional EVP regarding finance and accounting matters. Prepares and assists in presenting the region’s financial results and status relative to the business plan to regional senior management and volunteer leadership.

 

Some of your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
Prepares, reviews, monitors, and advises on the budget.
Works with the Finance Director and the SE region management to develop specific budget strategies/assumptions.
Provides budget guidance and support to field staff.
Reviews the submitted budget requests from staff.
Provides data for budget preparations, including multi-year budget analysis and projections.
Assists in presenting to SE region senior management and volunteer leadership the prepared budget.
Reviews and approves the variance analysis data/information prepared by the central finance department prior to distribution to SE senior management.
Is accountable for the overall monitoring of the financial performance of the region working closely with the central finance department
Provides training and resources to staff to support understanding of and compliance with financial and operational policies, procedures, and standards.
Functions as the liaison between the SE region staff and the central finance department for all donor letters of intent and donations.
Ensures compliance with fiscal standards and develops action plans to remediate non-compliance.

Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in a complex non-profit organization with strong knowledge of GAAP.
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and accounting for investments.
Skilled in use of management of automated accounting systems.
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and accounting and reporting software.
Analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills with experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, and other internal and external partners.
Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
CPA Certification is a plus.
NOTE: This is a work-out-of-your-home position that also requires the ability to travel to local meetings and events and occasionally throughout the region and to the AHA’s National Center headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
