Job Description

Reuters is looking for a talented, ambitious journalist to become Deputy Bureau Chief and Chief Correspondent for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) based in Moscow. This role calls for a strong reporter and writer who has a track record of generating exclusives and enterprising journalism and has held a leading role in a multimedia newsroom.

The job offers a front-row seat on Russia at a time when Vladimir Putin is pushing through changes to the constitution that could enable him to keep his grip on power beyond 2024 when he is due to leave the Kremlin. Russia, the world’s largest country by territory, is an increasingly important power in the Middle East, remains engaged in a complex standoff over the fate of eastern Ukraine, is locked in a spiraling arms race and cyber rivalry with the West, and plays a crucial role on global energy and commodity markets. It is also a source of rich multi-media and human interest stories. The successful candidate will help manage journalists and oversee news production across 12 countries, including Ukraine and Central Asia.

You will likely have:

  • Exceptional news judgment and a proven ability to break news
  • Able to write quick, polished stories across the file, including financial, political and general news
  • Proven ability to generate and execute great story ideas
  • A deep knowledge of the Russian story and an understanding of the key players and issues
  • Fluent Russian
  • Experience managing a team
  • At least five years of international experience
  • Preference for a journalist who has worked in Russia and has existing contacts in the region
  • Ability to work collaboratively with editors and reporters in different locations

Please note, the deadline for applications is Friday 28th February 2020 at 11.59pm UK Time.
