Одно из крупнейших в мире международных агентств новостей Рейтер ищет Russia & CIS Breaking News Editor.
The Russia & CIS breaking news editor role, based in Moscow, is one of the most demanding and exhilarating in Reuters: You will be responsible for ensuring Reuters is first with the most important news from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
Even when things are “quiet” the flow of news is heavy, the territory covered vast, unpredictable and market-moving, and the geopolitical significance of the story often major.
To lead the Russia & CIS breaking news hub, two qualities above all others are essential: passion and judgement:
- Passion: You must be passionate about us being first to accurately report the most important news stories from the region. You must be passionate about ensuring Reuters keeps its dominant position as the fastest provider of the region’s biggest news stories, including interest rate decisions, major twists in the difficult relationship between Russia and the West, and political and economic upheaval across the wider region. You must be passionate about continual innovation and ensuring freedom from bias in our work and behaviour. This is a leadership role in the bureau that will require experience of covering urgent news by swiftly putting out headlines and then making sure stories are quickly developed. That will involve a mixture of directing news traffic, delegating and writing. The ability to spot important developments buried in obscure or technical language will serve the successful applicant well. You will have to make split-second decisions on snaps and have the passion to ensure that our in-house breaking news drill is followed on all major stories. You will work closely with our team of breaking news correspondents in Russia and elsewhere
- Judgement: Crafting Reuters’ first news headlines requires exceptional news judgement; the world trusts Reuters to be the ultimate source of breaking news. You will have to decide what to alert – and what not to alert – and to plan ahead for major events, often at short notice and with many variables. You will be directly responsible for the news hub: you must ensure accuracy, balance and speed – and have the maturity to coach other members of the team to produce the very sharpest headlines and updated stories at pace. With the humility to learn from mistakes and carry out editorial post-mortems if necessary, you must also have the agility and intelligence to change direction sharply, and bring the team with you while building a range of relationships across the newsroom.
