As the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency continues to grow, Elliptic has a unique opportunity for а Research Lead — Crypto Threat Intelligence. This person will lead on cutting-edge research at the convergence of cybercrime and cryptoassets, becoming a subject matter expert in all things crypto, whilst growing and developing a team around this core capability.
The impact you will have:
You will recruit and manage Elliptic’s research team, tasked with maintaining a deep understanding of real-world cryptoasset use, with an emphasis on illicit use-cases. You will be responsible for ensuring that our industry-leading data maintains broad and comprehensive coverage of actors, so that Elliptic’s products remain class-leading. You will remain hands on in your research, becoming a subject matter expert.
You will also use the insights generated by the Research Team to create client-facing research as well as marketing content. Previous Elliptic research has been featured in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg and BBC News.
Your day to day will involve:
Work with the Chief Scientist to set the specific goals and priorities of the Research Team
Build and manage a team of research analysts, tasked with maintaining:
a deep understanding of emerging criminal use-cases for cryptoassets, and the cybercrime ecosystem more broadly, including ransomware, fraud, darknet markets and mixers
knowledge of the full spectrum of criminal actors engaged in illicit use of cryptoassets, and their relative importance
a deep understanding of legitimate use-cases for cryptoassets
knowledge of all cryptoasset service providers and other prominent actors
Develop processes and best-practices for the Research team to maximise their impact and efficiency:
Develop research methodologies and best-practices, and ensure that all research complies with company policies
Ensure that insights are properly documented
Ensure that the Research Team works closely with the Data Team to share insights and ensure data coverage of key actors is maintained
Develop relationships with external organisations to gather information and collaborate on research.
Perform your own research into cryptoasset activity
Perform open source research into cryptoasset activity
Use Elliptic’s cryptoasset investigation tools to perform forensic analyses of cryptoasset transactions
Work with the data team to uncover high-level trends
Communicate the Research Team’s findings, internally and externally:
Contribute to blogs, research reports and other marketing materials
Deliver external talks and presentations, representing Elliptic at key conferences and webinars
Supporting sales activities by acting as a subject matter expert
Deliver intelligence briefings and reports to our clients
Ensure that insights are shared internally to educate the broader Elliptic team
You must have:
2+ years management experience
Excellent writing and communication skills — the ability to distill complex concepts and data into concise explanations
4+ years in a threat intelligence, cybersecurity, law enforcement or intelligence role
A deep understanding of cybercrime
Open source intelligence and dark web research skills
Bonus points:
A technical understanding of cryptoassets and blockchains
Published research on cybercrime
Russian language skills
