PROJECT DESCRIPTION
KulturMarktHalle e.V. is an association which wants to offer a place for art, culture andnew ideas where encounters between “old and new” Berliners in a colourful neighbourhood are possible. They started to do volunteer work in a group accomodation for refugees and found an empty department store in 2018 wherethe community centre is now located. The volunteer will have the opportunity to work in all areas of the project: — Working with children and young people from a difficult family background — Participation and organization of projects for the local community — Design of texts for the website, creation of a blog — Cooperation in the workshops (wood, metal, planting etc.) — Organization of cultural and artistic events (theatre, singing, art, dance, textile) — Cooperation in café, cinema, neighbourhood festivals of the project — Organization of international workcamp within the project INVOLVE (INtegration of migrants as VOLunteers for the safeguard of Vulnerable Environments)
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
The volunteer is going to live in a host family (with a family with children or an older person from the neighbourhood). The intergenerational aspect and the proximity to the neighbourhood is very important to the project. The volunteer might have to move within the year and therefore experience two host families. The volunteer will receive provisions (258 Euro/month). The volunteer will be reimbursed for the costs of a monthly public transport ticket.
TRAINING DURING THE PROJECT
There is an English speaking mentor who is responsible for answering any questions and supervising the work of the volunteer. The volunteer can take part in the regular training for staff members. The project has a lot of experience with German, international volunteers, refugees and been a host project for the the federal voluntary service for two years. The volunteer will take part in on-arrival training and mid-term meeting in Germany.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
KulturMarktHalle has the following expectations towards the volunteer’s required skills and interests: — be open-minded and motivated and ready to work in a culturally diverse team — willing to take responsibility and work independently — ability to work in a team — willing to bring in own skills and interests — basic knowledge of German language would be an advantage; strong interest in learning the German language — openness in relation to working time flexibility, which is dependent on current project offers — initiative in organization of own workshops and events is welcome
