WWF-Australia is part of the WWF International Network, the world’s leading, independent conservation organisation has opened its doors for an Antarctic Program Manager.

 

About the role

WWF’s Antarctic program covers one of WWF’s Global Priority ecoregions. This role develops, leads and manages the Antarctic Program by deploying high level strategic advocacy, policy development, and the management of domestic and international stakeholder relationships in support of the conservation of biodiversity in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean regions. Key to this position is the ability to achieve outcomes through the provision of leadership to a diverse coalition of NGO’s within CCAMLR and engaging more broadly with a network of policymakers, industry and science stakeholders with diverse positions on Antarctica and Southern Ocean issues.

 

Skills, knowledge and experience

Advanced knowledge of, and high level experience in, marine and/or polar biodiversity conservation with understanding of sustainable fisheries management principles and practices.
High level skills and significant experience in translating science to policy and advocacy in relevant national and international contexts.
A track record of developing and promoting pragmatic solutions to complex problems at a strategic level.
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with experience advocating to diverse senior stakeholders.
Experience leading a team of geographically dispersed professionals.
Ability to identify and develop opportunities for conservation projects with policy, communications and fundraising outcomes.
Advanced conservation project management skills with a proven track record working autonomously and driving complex projects from inception to completion.
Contract and financial management skills.

Ideally, you will have experience in the application of biodiversity conservation and sustainable fisheries management practices in the context of work in Antarctica, Southern Ocean or Australia, with fluency in a language other than English (preferably Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, or French). The ideal candidate will have an ability to work both autonomously and constructively within a team and be aligned with WWF’s vision, mission and I-KODE Values.
