The Head of Design will have a local and regional leadership role within the global network, collaborating with the New York Design team, to establish global standards, build global brands, and drive overall design excellence within a fast paced consumer goods environment (eg. beverages, snacks, nutrition and sport). S/he will be responsible for the East European market with a strong focus on Russia.

This individual will need to effectively manage and influence a cross-functional team that includes brand design, innovation, product design, consumer insights, brand marketing, R&D, and operations to successfully deliver strategically aligned and commercially viable projects. S/he will be responsible for the co-creation, management, and execution of a comprehensive brand design and innovation strategy that will impact the growth agendas for PepsiCo’s portfolio of brands.

The Head of Design will be responsible for all aspects of the front-end design process, ranging from problem definition, performing and analyzing consumer research, to brainstorming and visualizing ideas. He is fueled by imagination and creativity and like the challenge of creating what has not yet been created. S/he helps solve unique and complex problems that have broad impact on PepsiCo's business growth. They are also focused on new creation driven through the lens of the PepsiCo consumer.

The person in this role will be accountable for supporting the development and delivery of a wide range of innovation projects, structural packaging and graphic design. S/he will need to help deliver projects from initial ideation, through concept development, to commercialization. The person in this role will work closely with internal and external partners to develop design projects that satisfy consumer needs and the growth of PepsiCo's portfolio. This means creatively conceptualizing innovative brand design systems and planning, organizing, and implementing consistent design/production principles.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Informing and co-creating the global strategy:

  • Strategic Design Leadership: Participate in the creation of global design strategies by bringing the voice of the region to the forefront by liaising with global design heads. Demonstrates an ability to understand the technical, social and emotional values that have critical business significance. Maintain a flow of value through the integration of the business strategies, market and social trends, and available technologies. Develop and adjust strategies and/or process to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Design R&D and Innovation: Identify and promote self-initiated brand design programs that generate critical business value for one or more business groups, having great impact on multibillion dollars brands.
  • Provides design leadership around customer trends and testing, customer research, strategic planning, and holistic design principles

Executing the global strategy with the right tweaks to make it locally meaningful and relevant:

  • Design Project Management: Responsible for partnering across disciplines within PepsiCo and external suppliers to ensure design assets are developed and delivered with quality, value, and on-time and within budget. Ensures each stakeholder understands his/her role and responsibilities throughout the creative process. Regularly reviews the status of projects with appropriate leadership to verify that Company and Division expectations are met.
  • Energizes and leads both the internal team and external design resources from idea phase to commercialization.
  • Responsible for driving to final design recommendations, decisions and design approval to enable artwork execution / production phases.
  • Supporting the PepsiCo Design Organization Globally: Partners regularly with Design, R&D and business teams outside the US. Supports the development of global design culture.

Reverse innovation. Innovation for the region aligned to global principles that could be leveraged in parallel as a global project:

  • Identifying and promoting self-initiated brand design programs that generate business value for the country and the Global organization
  • Can help lead and influence cross-functional teams in the development of new products from ideation, concept development to commercialization
  • Generates creative design proposals (visions, scenarios, concepts) in order to visualize the desired output and share it with internal and external team members, leverage design tools (e.g. sketching, prototypes, video etc.) to bring their vision to life
  • Can create passion, conviction, and momentum around the right areas of opportunity

Build local expertise:

  • Talent Development: Responsible for leading and mentoring internal staff. Establishes objectives, supervises activities, and manages performance.
  • Acts as the lead for the PepsiCo design organization the country of reference helping to build and cultivate a strong internal and external design network

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in design, Masters preferred
  • 10+ years of deep brand design and innovation experience
  • Proven ability to communicate with a technical organization (e.g. R&D) and a creative marketing organization
  • A creative problem solver
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous and dynamic work environment
  • Can build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and project leads
  • Prior Global Experience preferred
  • Prior Supervisory Experience preferred
  • Can effectively influence senior leaders in the organization across regions and functions
  • Very business and politically savvy
  • Extraordinary ability in using the Adobe Creative Suite software
