Role Overview:
- The company is seeking an experienced and highly analytical professional to join senior management team as Head of Coal Sales & Financials. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing and driving strategic financial and commercial decisions from the ground up, directly contributing to the successful operation of the largest coal mine in Laos.
- This role demands strong leadership, exceptional analytical skills, and hands-on capabilities to proactively manage commercial operations, financial modeling, and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, execute, and oversee strategic financial and commercial decision-making from scratch, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market conditions.
- Lead, monitor, and optimize the internal CRM system, maintaining data integrity to support informed commercial decisions.
- Critically evaluate, negotiate, and manage coal sales contracts, ensuring optimal terms and compliance with company standards.
- Maintain and enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of the Direct Cash Flow model, providing reliable forecasting and performance tracking.
- Develop and manage comprehensive financial models capable of delivering timely and accurate Operating Cash Flow (OCF)-level reports, enabling rapid decision-making.
- Consolidate, track, and continuously analyze total operational costs, proactively identifying areas for cost reduction and improved financial efficiency.
- Lead subcontractor and vendor relationship management, ensuring cost-effective terms, timely deliverables, and quality service.
- Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to the team, driving performance through active engagement and example-setting.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Fluency in English, with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in senior-level financial controlling, sales management, or equivalent roles, with significant financial and accounting responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline; advanced degrees such as MBA preferred.
- Financial or accounting certifications (CFA, CPA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in commodity sales, preferably coal or mining-related sectors, including strong understanding of market dynamics and pricing strategies (mandatory).
- Advanced proficiency with Business Intelligence (BI) tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and substantial hands-on experience in complex financial modeling (mandatory).
- Experience managing subcontractor and vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts, managing performance, and ensuring compliance (mandatory).
- Expert-level skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Demonstrated resilience, mental toughness, and the ability to thrive in challenging environments. Comfortable working under significant pressure and tight deadlines.
- Proven capability to independently handle complex problems, make difficult decisions, and manage ambiguity effectively.
- Strong knowledge of local and regional regulatory environments impacting coal mining, sales, and export procedures.
- Previous experience in the Southeast Asian market, particularly Laos or neighboring countries, would be highly beneficial.
- Proven ability to independently manage and prioritize workload during rotational off-site periods.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically, innovate, and drive financial excellence in a complex operational environment.
