A multinational vehicle for hire company Wheely is looking for an experienced General Counsel.
Description
As a General Counsel at Wheely, you will be expected to support the activities of the legal departments in the UK, France, and Russia, by optimising the legal processes within the company, and by providing comprehensive legal support for our activities in the regulatory, corporate, commercial, IP, and compliance and claims areas. As cities and regulators are increasingly data-hungry, and in some cases imposing burdensome restrictions on private hire due to external lobbying, part of your role will be to lead our efforts in maintaining safe journeys without compromising the privacy of our users as we expand across the globe.
Responsibilities
Act as the company’s corporate secretary
Support our expansion into new markets
Manage the relationship with external legal counsel
Maintain a contractual base for the company
Protect and maintain IP and software rights
Line-manage two in-house counsels based in our Moscow office
Collaborate across the business to assess and monitor company compliance with legislation including GDPR, ePrivacy, CCPA, and anti-corruption laws, including support and develop processes and policies to help ensure ongoing compliance
Ideal candidate
A UK qualified solicitor (or equivalent)
Commercially pragmatic – able to take a commercial view on legal risk and comfortable taking personal responsibility for judgement calls when instructions are incomplete or ambiguous
Experienced with venture financing
Strategic in approach, focusing on the company’s medium and long-term goals
