CNN is looking for a Field Producer.
Your New Role:
- Under the direction of the Directors of Coverage and the Correspondent, the Producer is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the numerous and variable editorial, logistical and technical matters essential to the CNN News Group’s newsgathering and digital needs
- The Producer deals with stories from development through execution; responds to breaking news in the region; and ensures all content is relevant, accurate, of high quality and of interest for the target audience
- The Producer organises the newsgathering and output of the day’s biggest news stories across all platforms. He/she is the primary interface with teams in the field and bureau; and provides guidance, direction, editorial and production support to them under direction from the Bureau Chief
- The Producer also ensures communication between teams in the field and all interested platforms is timely, accurate and follows CNN Editorial practices and guidelines
Role Accountabilities:
- Working hand in hand with Moscow reporters in their newsgathering responsibilities
- Taking the lead in co-ordination with the International desk in Atlanta and the London News Desk, handling and full facilitation of news coverage and CNN correspondents’ output, including the editorial oversight of packages
- Sourcing reportable information for the news desk and digital platforms
- Supporting essential coordination and logistical decisions in line with coverage and programming priorities, as well as ensuring coverage operates within budget constraints
- Helping oversee field safety for teams on assignment and ensures that risk assessment procedures are followed
- Dealing with the unexpected – breaking news. Responds at a moment’s notice to get editorial information for air, verifying its accuracy, while simultaneously getting live phone interviews, live video, transmissions and/or taped coverage of the news event
- Providing clear guidance and feedback to the field (Correspondents, Field Producers, Technical Crews). Knows Company policies and practices applies them
- Providing editorial guidance to CNN News Group networks and websites on international matters, ranging from historical or cultural background to translation when possible
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in newsgathering and TV and Digital production
- Field producing or reporting experience for TV and/or Digital
- Knowledge of TV news logistics, technical requirements
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise between tasks under difficult conditions
- Prior field experience in hostile environments
- Organized, exceptional interest in world news including business news
Desirable:
- BA/BSc degree or equivalent experience
- Prior field experience in hostile environments
- Russian speaker
