Main responsabilities:
Setting process control targets and ensuring that process operates efficiently and economically to meet these targets.
Providing raw material consumption targets, coordinating plant activities and liaison with other departments to achieve these targets.
Executing a monthly inventory process to determine if production, quality and raw material efficiency targets have been met.
Ensuring customers receive hydrate and alumina of the required specification and quantity.
Managing the Laboratory services, Process Development, Process Engineering, Shift Process Engineering, Distributed Control Systems Engineering and Quality Departments
Setting targets for and ensuring that the level of contamination in effluent from plant is within limits for safety of the environment.
Ensure that activities are carried out safely and with regard for the health and security of all employees, and the environmental impact of operations.
Appropriate capital, designs, implement and commission major projects to improve the efficiency and economic operation of the plant.
Contribute to the transformation of the organizational culture to a more team based and process approach to problem solving and task accomplishment.
Recommend and implement improved and controlled strategies via the Distributive Control System.
Manage capital and operational budgets to achieve strategic and operational objectives.
Promoting and developing a quality centric and risk aware culture throughout the division and the plant as a whole.
Establishing mutually beneficial relationships with colleges, universities and other centres of learning and research.
Control of annual business planning, monthly Production forecast, availability of product for shipment based on forecast and plant operations, monthly inventory report, quality of Alumina and Hydrate Shipments
Achievement of business plan with rationalization for deviation vs targets, if any (production raw material efficiencies).
Determine Production Process KPIs
Accountable jointly with the Plant Manager, Plant Maintenance Manager and Environment and Safety Manager and their teams for achieving all safety, environmental, production, quality and efficiency targets for Ewarton Refinery Business Unit.
Provide innovative, effective technical advice on the application of existing and new technology, thereby ensuring a high quality of hydrate and alumina production and improvement in efficiency and competitiveness of WINDALCO.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of production and administrative systems and achievement of longer term Business Plans through involvement in projects, cross-functional teams and continuous improvement activities.
Ensure that Bayer process raw materials (oil caustic, bauxite, flocculant etc.) meet set specifications.
Number of subordinates: 50.
Requirements:
First Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgy or related discipline.
Postgraduate qualification in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgy or related discipline.
At least 10 years of related work expirience;
Minimum 3 years’ experience in alumina refinery management positions with experience in several Bayer process refinery functions, e.g. Operations, Technology Services, Maintenance, and Optimization.
Project, Quality and Risk management skills.
Proven human relations, leadership, coaching and communications skills.
Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with an ability to systematically identify the critical root causes and address them quickly and cost effectively.
