Job Description:
To lead and manage a mine leadership team responsible for executing the mine strategy and tactical performance. To develop and execute long-term strategies to grow the mine and ensure Kinross meets its strategic objectives. To formulate and / or oversee the execution of business practices within the mine and to ensure alignment with organizational standards. To drive increased revenue growth for all partnerships.

 

Job Responsibilities:
Develop systems and sets performance targets and measures that appropriately assess the performance of the mine and direct reports and review progress to ensure achievement of targets; accountable for overall mine performance
Create annual operating and capital budgets for the mine consistent with Kinross’ established financial guidelines and business planning process
Ensure that the mine is adequately skilled and equipped to safe guard the health and safety of its employees and the assets held by the company
Build the unified capabilities of the organization by creating a culture focused on growth, execution, performance, operation excellence and integration
Oversee the implementation of processes, policies, and practices within the mine that maximize operational efficiencies and competitive advantage
Prioritize key change management initiatives; assess the organization’s readiness to engage in change efforts and facilitate the design and execution of change efforts including mitigating risks
Leads and supports organizational change initiatives by acting as a project sponsor on key initiatives and communicating the company vision and strategy to employees
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards pertaining to the mine, in conjunction with its operations, finance and administrative departments
Develop strategies for increasing the return on investment from vendor and other partnerships related to the mine
Work closely with other members of the regional leadership team, as well as key resources within Kinross to develop best in class strategies to ensure achievement of key performance indicators
Identify strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor and mentor to direct reports; works to overcome challenges and barriers and minimize risk
Build the capabilities of the team to enhance the mine’s ability to achieve financial and operating strategies
Hire appropriately, leverage the talents of the group, and take corrective action where necessary
Ensure there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the function; identify succession role requirements and high potential talent, and actively develops key talent

 

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
12-15 years management experience with increasing responsibility
5 years of experience in operations at an underground facility at a Superintendent or Operations Manager level
Previous experience creating and communicating the vision for an operational or functional area that inspired and aligned employees; previous experience as GM or equivalent ideal
Previous experience developing a strategic plan that positioned the business for growth and success within the industry
Previous experience executing major initiatives such as a partnership, major change, new system implementation, or expansion
Understanding of maintenance programs/systems, role of technical services, geology, engineering, milling operations, environmental, safety, HR, accounting, purchasing and warehousing
Detailed knowledge of all phases of mining, metallurgical processes, business development and maintenance
Detailed knowledge and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and life of mine planning
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team; inherent leadership ability to organize efforts of individual person and how each contributes and the impact of their performance on others; know their roles and how they fit and make good decisions to impact larger mine needs
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage relationships inside and outside of organization in respect to environmental groups, permitting regulators and legislators
Demonstrated ability to keep various parties informed and balance needs of different groups and still drive a project forward with economic and timeline realities
Must have good knowledge of life of mine planning, budgeting, equipment capacities, etc
Knowledge of all functions: operations, geology, engineering, milling operations, environmental, safety, HR, accounting, purchasing and warehousing
Good presentation skills for employees, upper management, Board of Directors
Strong communicator and leader within local community; have a good relationship with workforce and regional community; be a recognized leader of the community
Skills:
Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team
Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills, and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, local community, upper management and the board of directors
Excellent administrative and organization skills
Good working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs
