About the role:

  • This is a generalist Corporate Affairs and Patient Advocacy role that will be responsible for building the company’s profile in the Middle East, Africa, Turkey Russia & CIS Region by developing proactive and reactive communication strategies targeted towards multiple external and internal stakeholders. External stakeholders include media (medical, industry, general), patient advocacy groups and others who influence the public discussion around the environment for optimal therapeutic innovation and market access. Internal stakeholders include senior management and employees
  • The candidate will help to drive business results by leading and aligning the internal and external communications along with the corporate affairs activities. It will oversee communications for the company´s marketed products and pipeline by providing strategic counsel and oversight for the affiliate. The incumbent will also develop, execute and align internal communications strategies and programs that educate, engage and enable employees by providing clear, consistent messaging on Biogen’s strategic mission, vision and progress toward achieving the stated goals and contribute to an overall culture of excellence. In this role, the candidate will manage all relationships with patient advocacy groups and will develop engagement plans for local organizations
  • The position will report into the Head of MART and will work cross-functionally with Market Access, Public Policy and Government Affairs, Commercial, Medical Affairs, HR; and in close cooperation with the regional and global headquarters.

 

The Role Covers The Below:

Corporate Communications/Issues and Reputation Management:

  • Develop strategic communication plans to enhance corporate reputation in MART among key audiences and promote Biogen as a pioneer in neuroscience, a credible and influential player in biotech and a leader in corporate social responsibility. Ensure alignment with global corporate communication strategies and messages

Media Relations/Disease Awareness/Product PR:

  • Develop strategic communication plans and tactics to support business goals and brand strategy
  • Organize events to raise awareness of the therapeutic areas on which Biogen is focused: MS, SMA (rare disease), Alzheimer’s Disease and pipeline; drive media coverage around key milestones; seize relevant opportunities to enhance the organization’s image Adapt global and regional Corporate Affairs messaging
  • Leverage multiple channels – including general media, medical and industry press, social media (including local company website(s)) to increase visibility and reach target audiences

External Stakeholder Engagement: Patient Advocacy

  • Working closely with the team in Government Affairs and Market Access and the rest of the cross-functional team, lead, own and develop effective relationships and alliances with key advocacy groups and appropriate public policy makers in order to effectively channel company messages to contribute to policy development at an early stage
  • Develop and implement projects in alliance with patient associations and advocacy groups (PAGs) that improve health outcomes [e.g. guidelines, governance, disease management, access]
  • Participate in disease advocacy activities with thought leader boards who act as reference resources for PAGs
  • Support local Government Affairs efforts in MART in cooperation to advance company reputation and position in pharma industry’s local trade associations

Internal Communications:

  • Drive leadership communications: develop position papers, speeches, Q&A and briefing notes for Biogen executives
  • Collaborate with other departments and execute internal communication campaigns to foster employee commitment to the company’s mission, values and goals while promoting a culture of excellence and highlighting the Biogen Elements
  • Educate employees about science and key milestones surrounding the pipeline and foster excitement for product launches

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations or related field; educational specialization is flexible depending on professional experience. Communications or relevant business degree at the Master’s level is a plus
  • 5 – 10 years professional experience in the Corporate Affairs arena with a focus on internal and external communications in an agency, corporation or NGO in the biopharmaceutical industry on a local or international level
  • Broad communication background that includes external and internal communications with a mix of content expertise in brand and science communication, experience in issues management, culture change and market access issues
  • Excellent working knowledge of local media, patient groups and other external stakeholders
  • A proven ability to formulate and articulate clear messages about complex and sometimes highly technical subjects, as well as experience in crafting opinion pieces
  • Good sense of responsibility and accountability
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and interact with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent networking skills and ability to work in a global and culturally diverse environment
