Anglo-American School of Moscow is looking for a Chief Accountant and Finance Manager.
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting functions and financial cycles, the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting profit, loss, cash balances, and other financial results. Administers approved accounting practices in the areas of financial reporting, management accounting, cost accounting, banking and cashing, credit collection, payroll administration and internal budgeting.
The Chief Accountant directly supervises the accounting staff and works together with the Business Office (BO) team members to ensure a high-level of customer service is delivered. S/he reports to the Director of Finance and Operations, leads a team of specialists, and works closely with internal and external stakeholders.
S/he communicates effectively with a fluent level of proficiency in both English and Russian and provides excellent management support to the Business Office, AAS staff and community. Performs work which requires applying and developing AAS regulations, policies, and procedures and maintains the highest levels of confidentiality. Establishes professional relationships with staff and AAS Community members. The Chief Accountant should embrace the AAS Mission, Vision, and Core Values, promoting the school and the Business Office in all words, actions, and behaviors.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- An accounting Degree from a Russian-accredited educational institution with minimum five years' of relevant experience in the position of Chief Accountant / Deputy Chief Accountant
- Fluent in Russian. Speak, read and write in English fluently, according to the CRIFF standards, C1 or a C2 level, as determined by the external AAS testing provider
- Legally residing in Russia
- Must be eligible to receive a security clearance certification (provided by AAS)
- Accounting experience in both non-commercial and commercial entity with an annual operating budget in excess of $30 million USD is a strong preference
- Work experience with international schools is a preference
- Minimum of five years of experience managing and leading high-performing teams
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Core Duties:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the existing processes and implement efficiency measures
- Leading accounting and reporting in accordance with RAS, Tax and IFRS requirements
- Evaluate and analyze efficiency of the current internal financial reports; implement changes to achieve an optimal balance between value for users as compared to preparation time and use of resources
- Leading monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes
- Reconciling the data regarding the revenue and costs etc., including variance analyses
- Supporting internal and external reviews and audits. Review of their results and implementation of necessary changes
- Managing tax and accounting policies, participating in elaboration and fulfillment of tax and accounting policies
- Monitoring changes in legislation or relevant court practice and ensuring compliance with them
- Financial planning and cost optimisation analysis
- Substantiating decisions regarding economic and budgeting matters during internal control, state (municipal) financial control, internal and external audits, tax and other audits, etc.
- Providing written analysis, meeting on a regular basis, and responding to ad-hoc requests regarding financial data reporting with the department heads/Cost Center Managers, Board, Directors, and others
- Provides accounting expertise and financial planning assistance to other AAS departments as necessary. Educates and familiarizes new AAS senior leadership with respect to the AAS-acceptable financial practices and expected budgeting procedures
- Supervising and providing day-to-day management, mentorship, and development of the Business Office staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
