Gather is building a virtual universe which fundamentally improves how people interact online. The mission of Gather is to remove physical constraints on peoples' lives, and provide a virtual world which surpasses the real one in interconnectedness, personal touch, and expressiveness. The company is looking for an Accounting Lead.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute all day-to-day transactions related to cash inflows and outflows
- This includes billings, receivables, payables, taxes, expenses, and reimbursements
- There is a customer-facing component - managing our billings inbox and reviewing refunds
- Own the financial statements - monthly close, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and reporting deliverables
- Carefully review and approve new vendor requests and manage vendor cards
- Manage all state business registrations and ensure compliance with state taxes
- Coordinate with outside accounting agencies
- Improve existing processes and controls, perform and maintain internal controls
Job Skills & Qualifications:
- 4+ years of accounting/finance experience, with experience in a fast-paced start-up environment and public accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Proven experience in the monthly close process and with accounting systems
- Exceptional analytical skills, technically proficient with Microsoft Excel, and ability to manage large and complex data sets
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-starter and ability to work without direct supervision and efficiently manage tasks
- Comfortable with ambiguity and change
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Open and willing — there will undoubtedly be projects and work streams that come up, that we can't predict right now
- Preferences:
- Experience with SQL and database querying
- Experience with Stripe
- CPA
