The Russian River Valley Winegrowers’ has announced the search of an Executive Director.

 

The Russian River Valley Winegrowers (RRVW) is a nonprofit marketing and educational group dedicated to promoting the Russian River Valley as the premier region for growing cool climate grapes while producing wines that showcase the diversity of the AVA’s six neighborhoods.

 

SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) has the overall responsibility for the complete operation of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers (RRVW). The RRVW focuses on marketing grapes and wines from the Russian River Valley wine region and on providing programs and services to its members. This involves program planning and implementation, working under direction from the Board of Directors acting in accordance with the policies, procedures and bylaws of the RRVW. The ED is responsible to the Board for the full range of activities: leading the development of marketing and member services programs; managing income and expenditures; maintaining membership and supervising volunteers and staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES include but are not limited to the following:

LEADERSHIP
Participate with the Board of Directors in developing and implementing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization
Act as an advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities
Foster effective team work between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff
In addition to the President of the Board, act as a spokesperson for the organization
Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate
Represent the organization at community events and maintain strategic relationships with industry stakeholder groups
Suggest new committees, as needed, and lead committee meetings as appropriate
Implement, manage and oversee all aspects of the marketing vision for the RRVW. (Social media, email blast, etc.)
Attend all agreed upon industry meetings

OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work toward the strategic direction of the organization
Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization and manage staff, consultants and volunteers
Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials

FINANCIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Work with the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget
Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization
Research grant opportunities, lead strategic partnerships and sponsor recruitment
Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization
Oversees and manages the fiscal resources of the RRVW

PROGRAM PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s programs
Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board
Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality and profitability
Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of programs
Evaluate program ROI and communicate results with Board.

MEMBER RELATIONS/ADVOCACY
Communicate with members to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization
Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
Lead annual membership drive
Oversees membership programs to ensure necessary growth in income and services for members
Directs all communications to the membership and general public. Ensures that organizational and business concerns are communicated regularly and effectively to all parties concerned and that organizational brochures, newsletters, and electronic communication are accurate, timely, and reflective of the organizational views.
Provides and promotes opportunities for public forums or input
Serves as the official administrative representative and spokesperson of the RRVW in all instances and situations when such representation is appropriate
Participates in RRVW activities to promote and enhance the image and relationship of the RRVW with all groups and parties in the community

HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery
Recruit and interview staff and consultants as needed
Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions and annual reviews, mentoring and discipline of all staff
Assures the organization’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Assures adequate records of all transactions and correspondence are maintained for review by auditors, the Board, or other officials or agencies
Sits as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and all committees. Keeps minutes at all meetings
Coordinates work of all Committees
Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with at least four years of work experience or an MBA is desired
Previous ED experience in the nonprofit arena a must
Academic course work in a relevant discipline (i.e., Marketing and communications, agriculture, journalism or other closely related fields of study)
Agriculture and wine industry knowledge and experience is desirable
General management experience with budget responsibility of at least $200,000 or greater
Experience in marketing, market research and media relations
Technical knowledge of viticulture, IPM, sustainability and regulatory compliance are desired

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES

Excellent public presentation and interaction skills
Strong public relations experience
Ability to interact with media and provide interviews for media outlets
Ability to work collaboratively with Sonoma County, state and federal government agencies
Ability to negotiate contracts
Board governance, management, and membership experience highly desired
Industry experience and contacts
Grant writing and management experience
Willingness to learn and the ability to ask for assistance
Must be a team player
Ability to multitask and support multiple people
Strong organizational skills
Adaptable and flexible with the ability to juggle competing priorities
Strong analytical skills
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential, sensitive issues and project

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent English language communication skills including the ability to read and summarize material in a broad range of professional publications and the ability to write clear, concise and compelling reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Fluency in languages other than English will be considered a plus, especially Spanish.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge and personal proficiency in Microsoft Suite, as well as social media and the Internet. Must also be familiar with Contact Management systems and Database software and be able to learn the use of these programs with minimal instruction.
